XMAS Event 2021

Swaffham Town Council XMAS Event 2021

After last year’s events were cancelled the Town Council, Councillors and local volunteers have been working hard to create something special for this year’s Christmas Lights Switch on Event, to be held over two consecutive days;

  • Saturday 4th – a Christmas market running alongside our regular market; an evening street food festival; children’s lantern parade and an evening of live music on the Buttercross until 10pm.
  • Sunday 5th – a traditional Christmas market with crafts, food and gifts stalls; funfair rides with candy floss and sweets; live nativity in Plowright Place and live entertainment and of course the light switch on which will light up the lampposts in the town centre, the main trees on the market place, Christmas Tree at the Assembly Rooms and the historic Buttercross

Keep an eye out for Santa making an appearance across the weekend as well as being in his grotto Sunday for you to visit!

This year we have added some extra fun with a mobile ice skating rink – this will be available on both days.

We hope that local businesses will be open throughout the weekend and into the evening joining in the festivities with their own colourful window displays and Christmas decorations.

  • Road Closure – to allow for free flow of visitors and stalls - the road on the West side of the Market will be closed from the Buttercross roundabout up to Lynn Rd and including Pedlars Carpark from 7am on the 4th Dec to 10pm on the 5th Dec.
  • Car Parking –  there will be no parking on the Market Place throughout the weekend. Free Car parking is available on Lynn St, Station St and Theatre St car parks alongside the usual timed parking on the East side of the Market Place.

We hope that the event will continue to showcase Swaffham Town Centre, businesses and market to locals and visitors alike, benefitting both our residential and business communities.

More detailed information will be shard on social media, council website etc leading up to the event – watch this space.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank local businesses and volunteers for their support of this event: after the past 18 months we all need a little Christmas joy in our lives!
