A dedicated local volunteer group is set to strengthen its life-saving work in the community thanks to a £3,500 grant from Swaffham Town Council to the Swaffham Area Community First Responders.

The Swaffham Area Community First Responders (CFR) are a small but growing team of trained volunteers who provide vital emergency support within the local community. Working alongside the East of England Ambulance Service, Community First Responders are often able to attend incidents quickly and provide immediate care while an ambulance is on its way.

Each volunteer completes an intensive one-week training course with the East of England Ambulance NHS Trust before undertaking supported shifts to gain the required level of competency. Once fully trained, responders are able to attend emergency call-outs independently, helping to support patients during critical moments.

As a newly established group, the team is currently looking to recruit more volunteers to help expand its coverage and increase availability across the Swaffham area. The group is encouraging anyone interested in making a difference in their community to find out more about becoming a Community First Responder or supporting the team in other ways. The funding from the Town Council will help support the group as it continues to develop and provide this important service for local residents.

Residents who would like to learn more about the role of a Community First Responder or how they can support the team can find the group on Facebook by searching “Swaffham Area Community First Responders”.
