Swaffham is a lively town with an involved community who take a pride in their lovely environment.
There is a community partnership programme involving a number of locally led community projects alongside the Town Council to ensure that community needs are met whilst driving continued success for the town both as a tourist attraction and a place to live and work.
The community projects include:
- The Iceni Partnership – created in 2001 as a community group dedicated to coordinating community projects and developing local assets and facilities; the Community Centre and Assembly Rooms.
- Family Action incorporating: Enjoy Swaffham Community Allotment Project Enterprise, ESCAPE – a project that has transformed an overgrown double allotment on the town’s Tumbler Hill site over the years, using gardening to bring people together and promote good mental health. Local organisations have helped along the way. Friends of Swaffham Orchard, Orford Road is a community orchard that, over the years, with support from local volunteers has created a programme of growing heritage and traditional East Anglian trees; various fruit, flowers for the town centre as well as cycle and walking networks and a community venue for events.
- Swaffham Community Allotment and Leisure Gardeners’ Association (SCALGA) – formed in 2007, SCALGA has grown into a recognised Allotment Association which, for a small annual fee provides the opportunity for local allotment holders to help the needs of the wider allotment community.
