A brand-new ladies rounders initiative at has seen an overwhelming response from the local community, with more than 60 women already signed up before the first session has even begun.

The new group, officially named Swaffham RUFC Ladies Rounders, will launch on Wednesday 3rd June at Swaffham Rugby Club on North Pickenham Road. Sessions will run every Wednesday evening from 7pm–8:30pm throughout the summer season, from June to the end of September.

Created as a fun and social way to keep the club active during the rugby off-season, the sessions are aimed at women aged 18 and over and are designed to be completely beginner friendly, with no previous experience required.

Organisers say the response from local women has exceeded all expectations.

“We started this as a way of keeping the club active over the off season and to offer the ladies of Swaffham a fun way to spend an evening in the summer,” said the club.

“The response has been overwhelming with over 60 sign ups already. Swaffham RUFC is a fantastic family friendly community club and is so pleased to see so many signing up for this. We believe in sport for all and look forward to lively Wednesday evenings this summer.”

The initiative is the first ladies’ rounders programme the club has offered and has been supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, including session leader Adele, social media lead Mark and Club Chair Brian.

Our Chairman Brian summed it up nicely when he said “Its not just about Rugby – It’s about being part of something bigger”

The first session will be free, with the full summer season costing just £20. While current spaces are now full, organisers have confirmed that a waiting list is available due to the high demand.

The club also hopes the sessions could eventually lead to local teams taking part in rounders leagues and summer festivals across the area.

Anyone wishing to join the waiting list can contact the club via email at [email protected] or follow Swaffham Rugby Club on social media for updates.
