Swaffham Town Council is pleased to welcome and support the launch of Swaffham Guardians, a new community-led initiative focused on enhancing civic pride, environmental quality, and community engagement across the town.
The group recently undertook its first community action event in Market Place, following permission to carry out maintenance works outside the historic Old School building. A team of 10 volunteers came together to improve this prominent town centre location, removing approximately 30 bags of green waste and restoring the appearance of the frontage.
In addition to vegetation clearance, volunteers carried out cleaning works around the Pedlar statue and surrounding public areas, significantly improving the overall presentation of this key visitor location.
The initiative reflects a growing commitment within Swaffham to promote a cleaner, greener, and more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
Speaking following the event, Kelly Alford, Founder of Swaffham Guardians, said:
“This initiative is about more than just environmental maintenance. It is about bringing people together, fostering civic pride, and demonstrating that collective action can have a meaningful impact on our town.”
The event was further supported by local business Swaffham Café, which generously provided refreshments for volunteers throughout the evening.
