Older drivers across Norfolk are being encouraged to stay safe, confident and independent on the roads by taking part in a new Older Driver Workshop and GOLD (Guidance for Older Drivers) refresher sessions.
Delivered in partnership with road safety organisations, these initiatives are designed for drivers aged 60 and over who want to refresh their skills, boost their confidence, and continue driving safely for longer.
Free Older Driver Workshop
The Older Driver Workshop is a free, face-to-face session offering practical advice and support in a friendly and informal setting.
The workshop covers:
- How ageing can affect driving
- Tips and tools to help you stay safe on the road
- The latest Highway Code updates
- How health, eyesight and medication can impact driving
- Alternative travel options to support continued independence
- Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences, helping to build confidence behind the wheel. Family members are welcome to attend to better understand how they can support older drivers.
GOLD Driving Session
For those who would like more personalised support, the GOLD session offers a one-hour, on-road driving session with a qualified Approved Driving Instructor.
The session includes:
- Driving in your own vehicle on routes you choose
- Tailored guidance based on your needs and concerns
- Supportive coaching throughout the drive
- A written feedback report with practical advice
GOLD sessions cost £42, with a limited number of free sessions available for those receiving Pension Credit.
Stay Independent, Keep Driving
Both the workshop and GOLD sessions aim to help older drivers maintain independence while keeping themselves and others safe on the road.
