Explore Swaffham’s Heritage with the New Market Town Trail

We’re excited to announce that The Market Town Trail will soon be available, offering a self-guided heritage walk around Swaffham that celebrates the town’s rich history, landmarks, and local legends — including the famous Pedlar of Swaffham.

The trail will link ten of the town’s most significant sites, from the bustling Market Place and Butter Cross to St Peter & St Paul’s Church and the Swaffham Museum, finishing at the iconic Pedlar sign. Along the way, visitors can explore historic architecture, learn fascinating stories, and discover the hidden gems that make Swaffham unique.

Thanks to £2,341 funding from the Love Your Market Fund, we are creating high-quality brochures and a lasting trail that encourages residents and visitors to explore the town on foot. Participants who complete the trail will even receive a reusable tote bag featuring the Swaffham’s Buttercross — a perfect memento of your journey.

The Market Town Trail is now live! It is free to explore, suitable for all ages, and offers a fun, educational way to experience Swaffham. Visit the Museum of Swaffham for your guide and bag!
