Heritage Week Comes to Swaffham This June

Swaffham will be celebrating its rich architectural heritage this June with a special three-day event delivered in association with the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB).
Taking place from 23rd to 25th June, Heritage Week offers residents, property owners and history enthusiasts a unique opportunity to learn more about traditional buildings and conservation techniques.
On 23rd June, Joe Orsi from SPAB will lead a guided tour around the town, highlighting Swaffham’s distinctive polite and vernacular architecture. The session will include demonstrations of traditional building materials and their uses, alongside an opportunity for attendees to ask questions about the maintenance and challenges of historic properties.
On 24th and 25th June, a practical training course will be delivered by Lynn Mathias and Joe Orsi, focusing on the repair of local rubble and carstone walls. Participants will gain hands-on experience using lime mortar and traditional techniques. The sessions will take place at a local charity building in Narborough, at The Templatet Foundation.
The event is free to attend; however, spaces are strictly limited and must be booked in advance.
